How to make a magic cube from strips of paper

This guide will show you how to make cubes from strips of paper and how to hinge them together with strips of paper to form a magic cube toy. Enjoy!

Difficulty level: Beginners

Instructions:

Materials:
Paper strips of equal width
Paper glue

Place a strip vertically on the table
Place another strip on top of it horizontally
Make sure that the edges are aligned
Fold the bottom strip up and over the edge of the top strip

Result
Fold the side strip up and over the side

Result
Fold the strip down over the side of the top edge

Continue folding the strips up and over the one above

Unfold the strips
Cut off 5 squares
Make all the folds in the same direction

Take a strip of 5 squares. Bring the top square around and over the bottom square to make a “ring”.
Glue it in place. *make sure the edges are aligned

Make 3 “rings” for each cube

Insert 1 “ring” into another as shown in the picture

Gently push it through and straighten the sides

Take the cube you just made and insert it into a third “ring”
This will make the cube sturdier

Make 8 cubes
Glue 2 together with a strip of paper.

The strip of paper will be a hinge
Use the hinge to bring one cube up until it sits on top of the other cube

Hold both cubes and lay them down
The folded part of the strip should be at the top
Hold the cubes together, align them and glue a strip on top

The result
Repeat for all 4 pairs of cubes

Place the 4 pairs next to each other
The hinges should be at the top and bottom pairs. * shown in blue
And on the outside of the side pairs * shown in green

Flip the top and bottom pairs so that the blue strips are on the table

Align the squares and glue strips as shown in orange in the picture

Use the hinges to fold the cubes over and glue 4 strips to the other side
That’s it! All the “hinges” are in place and you can use them to move the cubes.
